The artist has handed over the complete sum of his £25,000 honor winnings to the trust for venues, which operates to preserve the UK's independent concert spaces.

He was presented with the cheque on 16 October as his new release People Watching was named the best record of the last 12 months.

He has opted to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues had in his beginning days.

"I would not have achieved my current career if it weren't for all the performances I did around the North East, and further afield, when I was beginning," stated Sam Fender. "These spaces are renowned, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

In the last year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a modest fee to their ticket prices, which goes to help local stages.

Fender also took part, raising more than £100,000 on his recent tour to support thirty-eight small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The donation helped spaces that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties caused by flooding, fires and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, legal disputes and neighbor objections.

Other venues were granted funding support in modernizing infrastructure and gear that helped musicians and fans.

"The notion that funds from concerts in major spaces backs the local stages, where it begins for artists like me, is just sensible," the star has stated.

Fender is far from the only musician to give his award winnings to worthy causes.

In Pulp received the award in the year 1996 for their record the album, frontman Cocker stated that the band would donate their winnings to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, musician the artist split her award across a few good causes, such as the children's charity and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"Additionally, I contributed a grand to the center, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

Two years ago, Ezra Collective donated their winnings to the youth organization that supported their group, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners M People contributed their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was found to have the disease.

"Winning was sufficient," said vocalist Small. "The money was the bonus but we could do without the bonus, because we had the main prize. So our winning affected somebody else's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust announced it had saved a couple of small stages in that region, by placing them under public stewardship.

The Joiners in Southampton and the other in the city were bought under the Own Our Venues program, which is supported by Arts Council England and supporters who purchase "shares" in the venues.
